New York Film Festival 2013 trailers
The 51st New York Film Festival is in full swing, kicking off its first day with a screening of biopic action thriller “Captain Phillips.” Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett and two-time Oscar nominee as an actor Ralph Fiennes will be honored for their collection of work. Here are a few of the films to be presented at the festival, which concludes Oct. 13, with a screening of Spike Jonze’s “Her.”
'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'
An office worker living inside his own fantasy world begins an adventure while romancing his co-worker. When both of their jobs are threatened, he spurs a global journey to fix matters. With Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig and Sean Penn. Directed by Ben Stiller.
'Captain Phillips'
Based on a true story, Captain Richard Phillips is taken hostage by Somali pirates on the U.S.-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. With Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi and Faysal Ahmed. Directed by Paul Greengrass.
'Her'
A reclusive writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system designed to meet his every need. With Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt and Amy Adams. Directed by Spike Jonze.
'Tim's Vermeer'
Inventor Tim Jenison along with illusionists Penn & Teller investigate the mysterious painting techniques used by Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer of "Girl With a Pearl Earring." With Colin Blakemore, David Hockney and Penn. Directed by Teller.
'A Touch of Sin'
A reflection on capitalist China chronicling four people, living in four different provinces, who are driven to violent ends. With Wu Jiang, Vivien Li and Lanshan Luo. Directed by Zhangke Jia.
'12 Years a Slave'
A fact-based story of a 19th century freeman kidnapped and sold into slavery in the Deep South. With Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti, Alfre Woodard and Benedict Cumberbatch. Directed by Steve McQueen.
'Like Father, Like Son'
A successful businessman driven by money learns that his biological son was switched with another child after birth. He must make a life-changing decision and choose between them. With Masaharu Fukuyama and Machiko Ono. Directed by Hirokazu Koreeda.
Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian)
A film about the pioneering days of psychoanalysis, the tale follows a Blackfoot Indian returning from war with debilitating symptoms. Brain injury is suspected, then schizophrenia. With Benicio Del Toro, Mathieu Amalric and Gina McKee. Directed by Arnaud Desplechin.
'Nebraska'
An aging, booze-laden father journeys from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize. With Bruce Dern, Will Forte and June Squibb. Directed by Alexander Payne.
