Service member job discrimination
More than 1,000 National Guard and Reserve members file complaints with the U.S. Department of Labor each year alleging discrimination under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. The law protects military members’ jobs when they are called to serve. Government agencies are frequent offenders, accounting for about a third of the nearly 16,000 cases opened in the 12 years ending in September 2012.
