The $56-million, 12-acre Grand Park includes more than 300 new trees, 24 gardens with plants from the world’s six botanical regions and more than 170 plant species. The project updates and enlarges what was once known as the Civic Center Mall, which dates from 1966.

To lessen the park’s 91 feet of grade change over its four-block length, grades were changed and switchbacks added near Grand Avenue and near Broadway.
