How they did it
'Life of Pi's' digital magic
Rhythm & Hues conjured up most of "Life of Pi's" animals, seas and skies; other effects companies tackled everything from creating storm sequences and a sinking ship to making Sharma skinnier and Pondicherry, India, look like the 1970s. Bill Westenhofer, who is nominated for an Oscar for his work on the film, worked with 1,200 artists at several companies to create a digital tiger on a vast, changeable sea.
