Deep arch in the back, throwing himself off the block. Head also arches way back.

 

 

Initiates first pull while still underwater. Many swimmers lose speed by breaking the surface before the first pull.

 

Head stays straight while the body rotation is smooth.

Long reach with each arm followed by a strong pull.
