Monrovia fire: Mandatory evacuations

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for several Monrovia neighborhoods where fire officials are fighting a brush fire that began in a backyard and spread to the nearby hillsides. Crews from around the region, as well as planes and helicopters, are assisting in the effort to stem the blaze.

With a meager 5.14 inches of rain so far, this could be one of the driest seasons on record.

Note: Rain year is from July 1 through June 30. 2013 is year to date.
