Bike and pedestrian accidents in northeast L.A.

L.A. City Councilman Gil Cedillo announced he is indefinitely halting work on bike lanes planned for a three-mile stretch of North Figueroa Street, despite an aggressive two-year campaign by cycling advocates.

A Times review of accident data between 2002 and 2012 found a total of 221 car-versus-bicycle or -pedestrian accidents between Avenue 26 and York Boulevard — including nine fatal events. The review shows that Figueroa has a greater number of accidents than other major corridors in the northeast L.A. region.
