Gov. Jerry Brown’s $224 billion budget plan for California restores some cuts made since he took office in 2011 during a fiscal crisis, but there is little relief for parks and other programs. Not all of the restoration shows in the budget: $1.6 billion in unexpected state tax collections was added to 2012-13 school funding retroactively, though districts won’t have the money to spend until next fiscal year.
The circles below represent budgeted amounts and percentages of change for each section of the budget. The size of the circle represents the total amount of the budget, while the color represents percent of funding increase or decrease from 2012 to 2013.
