Map: The results of the race to replace Waxman

Gang prosecutor Elan Carr, a Republican, and Democratic state Sen. Ted Lieu of Torrance emerged as the top finishers in the crowded race to succeed U.S. Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Beverly Hills) in Tuesday's primary.

Carr and Lieu did best in the southern portion of the district, with Carr racking up big margins in the reliably Republican Palos Verdes Peninsula and Lieu carrying his home city of Torrance.

Up for grabs in their Nov. 4 runoff is the northern portion of the district where Wendy Greuel, Matt Miller and Marianne Williamson split the vote in liberal precincts on the Westside of Los Angeles.
